I have a lot of issues with Disney Princesses… well, more like fairy tales, really. Or, more specifically, that most women people who encounter these stories are only capable of registering their superficial messages because of the way they were indoctrinated. This is what I would have written as answers to the previously proposed questions:
Why was Snow White given a poisoned apple?
So girls could learn that being vindictive and sinister are the only ways to deal with feelings of jealousy.
Why did Cinderella run away at midnight?
To reinforce that women should fear independence from situations that cause them suffering, even when self-reliance is so close they can almost feel it.
Why did Ariel exchange her fins for feet?
To demonstrate that we will only be loved and accepted if we conform to conventional gender ideals.
Why did Aurora sleep for 100 years?
To teach women that in order for them to find Prince Charming, they must first be silenced.
Why did Princess Jasmine fall for Aladdin?
To inculcate in women that, no matter how successful, valiant and strong-willed they may be, they are merely the male hero’s partner.
Why was Belle in love with a Beast?
To force us to believe that men can be tamed and changed, even if they are abusive and monstrous.
And my conclusions is:
After all, inside every confident woman person are the stories of FRAGILE PRINCESSES that they grew up listening too, but that they did not allow for them to dictate their beliefs in love or self-wroth, because they know that they, and only they, can save themselves.
